I grew up in Hawaii. My dad used to say that Hawaiians “Lived to eat rather than eat to live.” He was right. When I lived there in the 40’s and 50’s most native Hawaiians were laid back and lacked education and ambition. That included most of my relatives. Non-Hawaiians. Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, Portuguese and other Caucasians were much more ambitious and more successful.
